Gas Monitoring Systems 1 and 4
The Colne range of systems is designed for permanent installation wherever there is the need to monitor the environment for toxic gases. The control units are compact and are designed for unobtrusive wall mounting in any convenient position. Installation, commissioning and maintenance are simplified by the modular design of the electronics.
How It Works The Colne system has been developed with the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations in mind and to meet the requirements of BS6020. The system comprises a control unit and selectable number of remote gas sensing heads. Two control units are available. For monitoring a single toxic risk in a small area, the Colne 1 is suitable. When a greater number of sensors are needed, including combinations of different gas sensors, the Colne 4 can be utilised. Colne systems are designed for a reliable long life and once installed require only routine calibration of the sensor heads. Clear indication of gas levels is given by a red LED display, which provides the reading from each detector in turn, monitoring is carried out every 5 seconds. Each channels reading can also be manually selected. Channel identification is given by a green LED display. In the event of a detector sensing gas at a concentration higher than the alarm set point, the red LED display remains at the maximum level and flashes. General Specification The cabinets shall be painted mild steel, water and dust resistant to IP54, with lockable door. A transparent window allows displays and indicators to be clearly seen. An optional cabinet IP66 is also available for external mounting. For installation of the control unit in a hazardous area, a flameproof enclosure is available. Each gas channel has two user-adjustable alarm levels, which can be set to operate from signals received from the remote-detecting heads. A red LED and operation of the internal audible warning indicate triggering of an alarm. The audible alarm can be cancelled by operating the Reset/Accept push control but visual alarms cannot be cancelled until the detectors are gas free and the system is reset. Each gas channel module has a write-on pad to enable the installer to identify the location of the detectors and to record calibration and alarm levels. The mains power on indication is by green LED which flashes in the event of a main power failure. A separate green LED gives confirmation that the battery is being charged during normal operation. All indicators and the displays are tested by means of a 'Test' push button. Portacel gas detection systems are integrally fitted with volt free relays to control other equipment including ventilation systems, automatic doors, valves etc. Each system, therefore, has common low alarm, high alarm and fault relays which are double pole changeover, rated 5 amp at 240v AC and, in addition, each channel has its own double-pole changeover 240v AC 5 amp relays for low alarm and high alarm. All relays can be operated in normally energised fail-safe' mode or in normally de-energised mode. An output to drive one or two audible/visual alarms is also provided which does not use any of the relay contacts. For interfacing the Colne with computers, recorders, telemetry, etc, outputs are provided to give 1-5v or 4-20 mA for each channel (user adjustable). 6AH or 15AH batteries are available as optional standby power sources. |
